Banned in China, storied bookstore opens new chapter in the US

More than five years after Chinese authorities forced its closure under paramount leader Xi Jinping's crackdown on free expression, Shanghai independent bookstore Jifeng Books is reopening in Washington D.C. with a new name, JF Books. Jifeng has declared its re-emergence in the U.S. capital is "not just a revival," but "a continuation of its legacy." The bookstore vowed in a statement to "once again be a platform for diverse cultural events, fostering connections through knowledge, ideas, and the shared human spirit."
